Bank staff follows customer to home for opening saving account, demands home visit charges
An
employee at a leading commercial bank in Kathmandu ended up in the customer’s
house after he found a man talking about not having a bank account. The Kathmandu-based
customer, who also was excellent at bargaining, did not realise that his
negotiation with the bank staff lasted for over two hours on the entire route
from the branch located in Kamaladi to his house located at Balkot, Bhaktapur.
As soon as they entered the house, the bank staff demanded visiting fees from
him, which reportedly upset the customer.
The bank staff, who has bagged
various awards in the past for being an ambitious employee, did not budge and
followed the customer all the way to Balkot in the local bus. On the other
hand, the customer did not agree to open bank account at the offered interest
rate and kept on insisting to increase interest rate on during the bus journey.
The customer,
accompanied by his wife, refused to pay attention to her advice as she tried to
convince him to let go off opening a bank account. “I am a devoted bargainer
myself. Despite my frequent appeals, they continued negotiating. Everyone in
the local bus spotted argue for two hours over a matter of interest of 1%. It
was so embarrassing!” she said.
When the three reached
home, the staff immediately demanded Rs 1000 as visiting charges for travelling
all the way to Balkot from Kamaladi. “Nobody from my branch has ever travelled
so much to convince one customer. This is exactly the kind of never-give-up
attitude that you require to become an ambitious banker,” he said.
The staff initially
stated that he is planning to participate in upcoming season of reality show Himalaya Roadies to be aired on Himalaya TV for his tough attitude. However, he then abstained
from doing so because he didn’t believe that he was a loser.
